Lockwood Or Bennett For Orient?

Forest boss Colin Calderwood has a selection headache ahead of the teams visit to Orient tomorrow. He has to decide on giving a return to the starting line up to the inform Julian Bennett, or stick with former O’s player Matty Lockwood.

Lockwood signed for the Reds in the summer, but has failed to live up to his billing as an attacking full back who can score goals. He had the misfortune of picking up an injury in his debut for us on the opening day of the season against Bournemouth and has since been overshadowed by some impressive displays from Bennett.

Bennett is having his best spell with the club since signing from Walsall in 2006. So much so that he’s gone from almost being public enemy number one last season, to becoming a fans favourite this. His marauding runs down the flanks and passionate displays have endeared him to the City Ground faithful.

But Lockwood should not be dismissed too easily. He joined us with a deserved reputation as a full back with a taste for goal. In 380 appearances for the O’s he scored 56 goals. Not bad for a defender. There’s no doubt he would love to play against his former club, but whether he will retain his place is a tough one to call.
