Midfielder Ben Watson has insisted that he “100%” wants to sign a new deal with Nottingham Forest, with his current contract at The City Ground drawing to a close.

Watson has been in outstanding form for Forest this season, playing a vital role in midfield to help the club maintain their play-off push, even earning himself the captain’s armband in the process.

But with his contract at the club set to expire at the end of this season, Forest could be at risk of losing Watson in just a few weeks time, although it seems that is not something that the 35-year-old wants to happen.

Does Ben Watson deserve a new contract with Forest?

Asked whether he would like to sign a new contract with Forest, Watson told Nottinghamshire Live“Yes, 100 percent.”

Indeed, it seems as though Watson is confident that will happen, even if confirmation of the agreement may not be imminent, as discussing the nuances behind a new deal, the midfielder continued: “With the gaffer signing a new deal… myself being out of contract, I’ll wait until the end of the season.

“We’ve spoken about it for next season. Everything is in the pipeline and we’ll just wait and see.”

This does look to be an encouraging sign for Forest.

Given how good Watson has been season, and the popularity he has developed amongst the Forest fanbase, it is hard to see anyone around the club being too disappointed by confirmation of a new contract for Watson.

Indeed, if the club do win promotion this season, Watson’s previous top-flight experience with the likes of Watford, Wigan and Crystal Palace could be invaluable next season, while if they don’t, he has already proved this year that he is still more than capable of making a significant contribution for the club at Championship level.
