Jones Anger At ‘Sick Forest Fans’

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was subjected to some vitriolic and distasteful abuse during the game at the City Ground yesterday and was understandably hurt by the chants from a section of the Forest support.

The chants go back to an incident some 10 years ago, surrounding unfounded claims of child abuse. The case never went to court and Jones was cleared.

There should be no place in football for this kind of thing, but unfortunately it’s something that will always rear it’s ugly head every so often. Most Forest fans in the crowd yesterday will have been embarassed at the chants, but the Cardiff fans should be equally as embarassed with their own support.

It’s all well and good taking the moral high ground and taking offence, but you should look a little closer at your own support, before criticising others. The Editor at Vital Cardiff wrote a rather one sided article on the events, but fails to take into account some of the chanting from his own set of moronic supporters.

If the Forest fans were guilty of hurling abuse yesterday, then so were Cardiff. Forest fans were subjected to constant anti English chants and as well as insulting the memory of Brian Clough, they made comments about the miners strike and about Harold Shipman. That was all just good old fashioned banter though, wasn’t it?

As for Jones. Perhaps he should just shut up and let things lie. Least said, soonest mended and all that. But no, he doesn’t believe in that. Fair enough, he was hurt and insulted and is right to feel aggrieved. But, if Dave Jones wants football supporters to lay off, then perhaps it might be a good idea to forget about writing a book on the whole sordid affair and get on with his life that way. But no. According to WalesOnLine, the book comes out next year. Surely this will only perpetuate the whole thing and put him and his family through it all over again. It’s all very distasteful and better off forgotten.
