FORMER Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson could be included in Burton Albion’s squad against Conference play-off rivals Gravesend & Northfleet at Stonebridge Road on Saturday, writes REX PAGE.

The 30-year-old striker is trying to come out of retirement with the Brewers 15 months after he thought a back injury had ended his career.

Johnson will train with Albion for the second time today, and manager Nigel Clough tentatively hopes the former Jamaica international will make the trip to Kent.

Clough said: ‘It might be a week or so before we can fully assess David’s fitness levels, but we’re not ruling him out of being on the bench at Gravesend.

‘We’ll sit down with him after training and see how he feels about signing for us.’

Clough does not anticipate any in problems in completing the striker’s registration because unattached players are not affected by the transfer window.
