Injury news: Nottingham Forest defender ruled out against Swansea

|

Carl Jenkinson has been ruled out of Saturday’s meeting with Swansea City after picking up an ankle injury. The 27-year-old had been a regular for Nottingham Forest in recent weeks so his absence will be a blow.

Jayden Richardson was loaned out to Exeter City and Tendayi Darikwa has been ruled out for the remainder of 2019, so Sabri Lamouchi is running out of options at right-back.

The Reds manager told Nottinghamshire Live about Jenkinson’s situation: “He will be out for a few weeks, unfortunately. He is out for the moment.

“It is unfortunate for him and unfortunate for us. He had been playing and had been playing well. He gave me more options. Now we just need to manage the group and be patient with him.”

Since joining from Arsenal over the summer, Jenkinson has made four appearances in all competitions – three in the Championship and one in the EFL Cup.

He was an unused substitute against Leeds United (August 10) and Birmingham City (August 17) before getting the nod in the Championship from Lamouchi.

After featuring against Fleetwood Town (August 13) in the cup, Jenkinson started against Charlton Athletic (August 21), Fulham (August 24) and Preston North End (August 31) in the league.

The 27-year-old was in fine form before picking up the injury and may not return until October now.  It’s bad timing as Forest have enjoyed a bright start to the season – 10th in the Championship and unbeaten in five games – but Matty Cash could return in Jenkinson’s stead.
