Injuries Starting To Bite For Forest

The injuries are mounting for Forest now with Billy Davies facing the prospect of having just one fit central defender for the start of the season.

With Wes Morgan, Kelvin Wilson and Joel Lynch all injured Luke Chambers, the only recognised fit central defender, is the only one that Davies has fit. Paul McKenna and Lee Camp also missed the Lyon game.

Davies, as he told The Nottingham Post, isn’t expecting any of them back for the final pre-season friendly at Swindon so looking at trying others, out of position, in the back four is something he will do – although he hopes to have at least one back for the opening championship game: ‘it is unlikely that we will have two central defenders at Swindon. I am hopeful that we will at Burnley, but there is a possibility that it might not happen.

‘We might have to see Julian Bennett or Chris Gunter in there.

‘We would like to be picking the team now that we want to start the Championship season but we can’t do that at the moment.’

Both Camp and McKenna are not serious though: ‘the doctor advised that Camp should not play. McKenna has a groin strain, but it does not look too serious.’

The Forest manager is not complaining though and knows that he will put out whoever he can whenever he can. He knows Forest have the quality but not the quantity, this is something he will be hopeful of adding to though: ‘as I keep saying, we will play who we can play, we will use who is available.

‘In the Championship, you need quality and quantity to carry you through. At the moment, we have the quality but not the quantity.

‘There are key players missing in Morgan, Wilson, McKenna, Camp and Paul Anderson. But we will cope with what we have.’

All Forest fans will be hoping that at least one of these central defenders is fit to return in time for the championship kick-off, which you would ‘expect’ at lease one would, right?
