Blackpool manager Ian Holloway last night admitted to committing a smash and grab at the City Ground, following his sides 1-0 victory over the Reds’.

It makes a refreshing change to hear the honest views of an opposing manager, so fair play to Holloway for his post match comments yesterday. Although his words don’t make defeat any less painful, it does show that in this game of huge egos, that there is room for a little humility and grace.

Holloway told the Blackpool Gazette. ‘I felt as though we’ve nicked something, put it in the bag and got out of here with a win. In some ways it was ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ for us after beating Newcastle on Wednesday because we looked very tired. But at the end of the game we’ve come away with three points – fantastic!

This was the first win at the City Ground for the Seasiders since 1964, so it came as something of a shock to watch them going home with the points this time. I suppose all good runs have to end sometime and maybe it was always going to be a case of Blackpool having to ‘nick it’ for them to break the hoodoo we’ve had on them for so long. At least Holloway has had the good grace to admit that he had a little bit of luck in getting the win, but even so it still means we got nothing from a game, that we really should have won.
