Grant Holt limped off the pitch in Tuesday nights BCT game against Derby with a groin strain.

It’s an injury the frontman man has been carrying since before the end of last season. It was something the club were hoping would rectify itself with rest and relaxation over the summer. But it appears now that the problem is still there. Holt is set to have a scan on the injured groin to find out if he needs surgery.

This is fast becoming a major headache for Calderwood, as it means Scott Dobie is the only fit striker available. Agogo is struggling to get back from a pelvic injury and Tyson is still some way off fitness and is not expected to make a return until September.

This latest injury must now force Calderwood into the transfer market for a striker. Although Sinclair has impressed in pre season, it would be too much to expect of him to play as the main target man with such little experience. A loan signing may be the managers preferred option, but either way, additions are required. There’s no doubting the club have been on the lookout for a hitman, after having bids turned down for Dargo and of course Andy Cole, who it is rumoured failed a medical at the City Ground.
