Not many of the players from Saturdays’ game against Port Vale will have been put forward for the man of the match award, but debutant Chris Cohen would be a candidate, after his impressive display for the Reds.

Manager Colin Calderwood is not one to name players in public for either praise or criticism and prefers to keep it in the dressing room. But he has singled out Cohen after he performed so well at Vale Park. Calderwood told BBC Radio Nottingham . ‘We knew he’d have a massive influence but it has been frustrating he has not been able to play. This is the only the beginning for him because he is an excellent player and can play a big part in our future.’

Cohen signed from Yeovil in the summer and has been sidelined with a groin injury. Although his debut was a long time coming, it’s hoped that this is the first of many fine displays in the Garibaldi. Well done to Cohen, he’s got a great future ahead of him.
