Forest defender Greg Halford was probably as surprised as supporters when he saw himself named on the team sheet as a striker in the 3-0 win over Bolton last weekend, but it’s a role he’s more than willing to perform again in the future.

Halford won the man of the match award for his performance at the City Ground on Saturday, but it is a position he has been training in during pre season. He has throughout his career managed to play in every position on the pitch and during his time at Portsmouth, even trained as a goalkeeper.

Speaking to the BBC, Halford said. ‘Starting as a centre forward was a shock and surprise, but one I enjoyed. It was icing on the cake to set up the third and seal the game.’

Halford put in the cross for the third goal that secured the points and maintained the Reds’ 100% start to the new campaign, also helping put the team two points clear at the top of the table.
