Good Things Come In Three’s

This was billed as Forest’s sternest test of the campaign so far and at the end of it they have passed with ease, not necessarily flying colours. An unchanged Forest side romped to a 3-0 win without playing particularly well.

Three straight wins, three clean sheets and three more goals see Forest climb to 8th in the table, just a point off the playoffs. It was by no means a vintage performance, but the win is an important one and will in a very small way ease the pain of last seasons playoff heartbreak. Chances were few and far between for both sides, but from the Radio Nottingham commentary it was the Glovers who just shaded it in the first half.

The second half despite three great goals was only marginally better. The first came from defender Luke Chambers who headed home a Grant Holt knock down, to pick up his fourth of the season. Forest seemed to then take control, but the game was still littered with poor passing and few chances from both sides.

The second and killer goal came from Junior Agogo who charged down a loose ball and from fully 30 yards out and on the run, chipped the keeper to put the Reds 2-0 up and the game beyond Yeovil’s reach. Next up was substitute Kris Commons, who replaced Nathan Tyson. KC was lively from the start. His first effort was a long range effort that went close. His second effort was bang on. Charging into the box, he latched on to a Grant Holt through ball that he hit on the volley and on the turn. The ball rifled off the bar and into the net.

Sinclair came on for Agogo and should have scored with his first touch. His goal bound effort was interrupted on it’s way by Grant Holt. Still, there will be no complaints from Forest, or the fans. This was an important win and will do much for the confidence and belief. Three goals away from home is always good, but especially at a place like Huish Park after what they did to us last year. Fair play to Calderwood for putting out an attacking side away from home and fair play to the lads, for getting the job done despite not putting in one of their better displays. Next up it’s Huddersfield away, where they get to do it all again on Tuesday night.
