Ginger Spices Up Cup Fixture

Gary Megson was appointed Leicester City manager on Thursday, his first job back in football since leaving us in 2006. His appointment has not exactly been welcomed with open arms in Leicester, but here in Nottingham it’s the best news we’ve had in a good while.

Whilst his time on Trentside is best forgotten, he did enjoy success as a manager before coming to the City Ground. Not least with West Brom, where he took them to the Premiership twice. Unfortunately that success never followed him to Forest and it all ended in tears when he failed to save us from relegation and was looking a good bet to take us down even further.

Now though, the man who’s had more nicknames than Satan, has teamed up with Milan Mandaric to form the unlikeliest of partnerships. Mandaric has now ensured that the supposed rivalry between the two clubs is indeed a real one. Leicester are forever telling us they are our biggest rivals and are not content at playing second fiddle to Derby in the popularity stakes. Although it’s difficult to see anyone else other than the Sheep as our true rivals, the appointment of Smegson has at least made us sit up and take notice of City (for this week at least).

This Carling Cup fixture hardly caught the imagination of the Forest faithful first time round, but the presence of the ginger one on Tuesday should make a few more turn up on the night. There is incentive for the Reds to do well, as Aston Villa of the Prem is the prize for the victors and a reunion with a City Ground and Leicester legend Mr. Martin O’Neill.
