Joe Garner’s battle with injury is nearing an end, as he hopes to make his comeback from a knee injury this week in a game for the reserves.

He hasn’t so much as kicked a ball since joining from Carlisle in the summer and has been out of action since last February. It’s been a frustrating time for the hit man, but he can at least now see light at the end of a very long tunnel.

Garner told the official site. ‘I’m getting nearer and nearer to playing again and I’m pencilled in for a reserve game very soon. But although it can’t come quickly enough, I know that I’ve got to be sensible and disciplined about my comeback. After being out for so long I just want to make sure it’s the first and last major injury I have in my career. I might be itching to get out there with the other lads but I will know in my own mind when I am ready for it.’

There’s no denying that we’re desperate for his services, but we could be expecting too much from him so soon after such a serious injury. It will take time for him to get up to full match fitness and that’s not a luxury we have at present. It’s four games since we’ve found the back of the net, so his return will be welcome. I just hope we’re patient with him and that he’s given the time to acclimatise to the Championship.
