I’m glad that we got given the tie we did.
It wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun if we’d have been drawn against someone like Crewe Alexandra or Rochdale, no offense to those fine clubs. But to get a game against Derby County for the Brian Clough trophy so early in the season, boy it gets me fired up.
And just in case you need any last-minute motivation for tonight’s game, let me leave you in the capable hands (pun not intended, even after his display on the weekend) of Forest’s Congolese goalkeeper Brice Samba.
There are sometimes concerns about players not quite adapting to their new club, that they don’t get ‘it’ when it comes to playing for a certain side, not knowing what makes the fan base tick. Well, I don’t think we can say that about Samba can you? He posted this message before the game tonight, and I think we can safely say that he knows how big the occasion is.
And with that tweet came a flood of responses from Reds fans, who appear to be as fired up for tonight’s game as Samba is.

Always a big game against them. You will get a better idea when we play them in the league just how big.
Excellent performance at the weekend btw & good luck. #nffc— Paul Elliott (@Puds1970) August 26, 2019
Although I think these fans might be a little bit too fired up if they’re advocating this sort of behaviour.

mate, there’s this guy called Richard Keogh, ugly centre back, if you could just ‘accidently’ punch him, would be really appreciated x
