Forget 26-year-old Championship star; Forest can do betterNottingham Forest have been one of the most proactive Championship clubs in the transfer market so far. They’re expected to continue their summer spending, and an addition of a striker is seen as a priority for Forest. While it’s vital for Aitor Karanka to improve the quality of his team, the Reds shouldn’t pursue a move for Norwich City’s Nelson Oliveira.
As the Nottingham Post reports, Nelson Oliveria is one of the strikers who is of alleged interest to Nottingham Forest. Famously, the 26-year-old has previously played for Forest, having joined from Benfica on loan, but is the striker of sufficient quality to lead the line for Karanka’s team? Should the Reds look elsewhere for a striker?
There’s no doubting that the Portuguese forward is a decent player, yet he doesn’t exhibit the necessary qualities to fire a side towards promotion. For any Championship side that hopes to achieve promotion to the Premier League, it’s vital that they possess a clinical and ruthless centre-forward.
Oliveira has only amassed double figures on one occasion during his professional career, and the highest total of league goals that he’s scored in a single season is 11. The 26-year-old has only scored 52 goals in 231 appearances throughout his senior career, and Forest requires a centre-forward who can contribute goals on a continuous basis.
This isn’t to insinuate that Oliveira is a bad player, one can imagine the striker playing a purposeful role from the bench for Forest, yet he’s failed to illustrate that he’s worthy of a more significant role.
The Reds’ need for attacking reinforcement is apparent for all to see, they amassed a poor total of 51 goals in 46 league games last season. Aitor Karanka’s side are in desperate need of a forward who can launch the club to promotion, and unfortunately, Nelson Oliveira isn’t that player.
