Nottingham Forest have been one of the most active Championship clubs in the transfer market, and their recruitment is poised to continue. It’s evident that Aitor Karanka is assembling a squad that possesses enough quality to mount a genuine challenge for promotion, and Forest are widely expected to announce the loan signing of Sam Byram from West Ham United.

As Talksport reports, Nottingham Forest are closing in on the loan signing of Sam Byram. The former Leeds defender was virtually non-existent for the Hammers last season, and he has only made 36 appearances over the course of two-and-a-half seasons with the Irons.

While Byram has generally been unfavoured at West Ham, he could prove to be a tremendous acquisition for Aitor Karanka’s side. Having emerged as one of Leeds United’s most exciting prospects, the Englishman demonstrated his credentials as an explosive full-back, equally competent in defence and attack.

Given the quality of his attacking attributes, Byram is comfortable operating in midfield, and it’s this versatility and flexibility that will be of incontestable importance to Nottingham Forest. He even displayed that he had an eye for goal during his Leeds days, scoring ten goals in 143 games for the Whites.

Byram isn’t devoid of imperfections, areas of his game require visible improvements such as his discipline and his passing ability. That said, he exhibits excellent understating of the game, with his superb intercepting ability, and he also has a useful habit of being fouled.

If rewarded with regular first-team opportunities, one can imagine Byram flourishing with Forest, and assisting their promotion charge.
