The £90M deal between the Premier League and Football League will be split over three years. The deal known as the ‘Solidarity Package, will ensure that a proportion of the Premier Leagues’ increased profits will go to lower league clubs.

The deal includes £5.4m for the Football League youth development, as well as £11.2m to be split between Championship, League One and League Two clubs. League One clubs will receive £103,480 each.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore told the BBC ‘The Premier League and our member clubs recognise the importance of the continued health of the professional game at all levels.

This can only be good news for all clubs outside the Premiership. The gulf between footballs elite and the rest is growing bigger and faster every year and the chances of getting there even harder. Surely it is right and proper for some of this money to be filtered down through the clubs. If it isn’t then it’s only a matter of time before another club heads the same way as poor old Scarborough and cease to exist.
