Forest can take some comfort in avenging the heartache of the FA Cup defeat two years ago at the Deva, but they made hard work of it and scraped through with the aid of a penalty shootout.

My God it was an effort to stay tuned into BBC Radio Nottinghams’ commentary last night, but you have to. Mind you, by all acounts it could have been worse and it was if you were one of the brave souls who made the journey to the borders of Wales for this Carling Cup tie.

Once again the attacking frailties of the side were on show, as Forest hardly had an effort in the first half to shout about. Matt Thornhill had a debut goal disallowed and Grant Holt missed a penalty, that was just about it in 120 mins of open play.

Forest won the penalty shootout 4-2, with young Emile Sinclair bagging the winner to do his confidence no harm at all.
