Danny Fox is hopeful his displays at centre back can convince the manager that he deserves a contract extension.

The 31-year-old has yet to sign a new deal despite his current one expiring in the summer, but he has impressed alongside Figueiredo in the heart of our defence in recent weeks. Speaking to the Nottingham Post, he said:

‘I hope I am repaying him with performances that come up to his standard. If I can stay fit and keep enjoying my football, hopefully the gaffer will see enough in me to keep me here next season.’

Certainly nobody expected the left back to be so convincing as a centre-half, but Karanka has clearly seen something in him to suggest he can play the position for an extended period.

Results don`t lie either. Since Aitor moved Danny in alongside Tobias for the game against Burton, we have tightened up quite a bit at the back with just four goals conceded in six Championship games.

For our manager, the defender could well be seen as a short term fix for the position before he makes more signings in the summer, but Fox is definitely doing all he can to convince his boss that he merits a longer stay at the City Ground.

What do you think? Does Danny deserve a new deal? Let me know in the poll!
