Nottingham Forest have today confirmed the signing of 22 year old Derry City winger Stephen McLaughlin. The highly regarded youngster spent a week on trial at the City Ground and has agreed a three and a half year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

McLaughlin scored 17 goals for the League of Ireland side last year and was being tracked by a host of English clubs. The news on McLaughlin when he was hear on his week long trial was that he had impressed, but doubts over whether the deal had been affected by the sacking of Sean O’Driscoll were unclear.

Thankfully for the player and hopefully NFFC as well, those doubts were unfounded. If he proves to be anywhere near as successful as the last player we had from Derry City, then a Martin O’Neill mark 2 will be a very welcome addition to the Forest squad. Welcome to Nottingham, Stephen McLaughlin.
