Well this has certainly caused a few murmurs among the fan base.

And given some of his displays in the Championship this season, it’s weird that there are so few clubs after him, you’d think he’d be a much hotter property. Especially when you consider that he’s playing out of position, you’d think that would only increase the hype surrounding him, at least then the club might be able to drive the fee up a little bit more.

According to a report in The Sun (15/11/19, page 74), Everton are set to make a bid for Nottingham Forest’s Matty Cash, with a fee of £12m being reported. The report also states that Southampton and Crystal Palace have also been paying attention to him.

Despite being predominantly a winger through most of his career, Cash has been asked to fill in at right-back for Forest due to injuries to Carl Jenkinson and Tendayi Darikwa. So what sort of role he’d be undertaking at Goodison Park is a bit of a mystery, would they keep him in his new role? Or push him back to his ‘old’ role?

Whatever he does at Everton though is no concern of ours, and it’s that £12m fee that is the big talking point. Is it enough to make Forest think about pulling the trigger and selling him on?

Personally, I think it’s a risk they should be willing to take. With that sort of money, you could easily use those funds to restructure the rest of the squad. Whilst it might not sound like a lot in the big scheme of things, when you consider the eye-watering fees that are thrown around in modern football, £12m to a Championship team is a lot of money to play with.

If you look at the fees that other Championship players have signed for, you can see the type of player that you can bring in for that fee. Whether it be on another right-back, or for that much needed back-up option for Lewis Grabban.

Should Forest cash in on Matty?

No

It’s a controversial view I know, but one that I think would benefit Forest not just this season but in the long-run as well.
