The Reds managed to beat the pulling power of Aston Villa, Sunderland and Leicester City a the race to get the midfielders’ signature. The 35 year old has signed a one year deal, with the option of a further year.

Lennon is just the sort of no nonsense player the club needs. It’s fair to say he would find it tough in the Premiership, but his vast experience at international level for Scotland and Champions League with Celtic should be more than a match for League 1.

Celtic paid £5.75M for him in 2000 and in 2005 he became club captain. Lennon helped the Bhoys to 5 League titles, 4 Scottish Cup wins and 3 Scottish League Cup wins. He was also a UEFA Cup Runner Up.

This is the first in what is hoped will be a series of new signings for the Reds. God knows we need them, but what a start.
