Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw in the first round of the FA Cup this afternoon, by bottom of the Football League Lincoln City.

Forest started the brighter and the Imps looked as though they would have a job to keep the score at a respectable level. As early as the first minute Junior Agogo hit an effort just wide from 30 yards and the Reds forced keeper Marriott into earning his keep with a series of saves from corners.

Lewis McGugan gave Forest the lead on 25 mins after some neat play between Tyson, Commons and Agogo. Junior thought his header was crossing the line, but McGoogle nipped in to finish the job off and make sure. Agogo could have added to the lead shortly after, when his header came back off the bar. The equaliser though came on 38 mins after a cross into the Forest penalty area hit the outstretched leg of Wilson and deflected into the net for an own goal. The Imps were lifted by the goal and grew in confidence.

Just before the break, Ian Breckin was forced into heading over his own bar as the home side were pressing the Reds back. By half time it was apparent that Forest would not be having things entirely their own way. The Reds were just about edging the game.

Agogo should have put us in front after the restart when KC sent him through one on one with the keeper, but the striker somehow put his shot wide of the goal. Commons was next to be the nearly man, after his effort from 30 yards out rattled the crossbar. Lincoln were not without their chances and were giving as good as they got. N’Guessan and Dodds were both denied chances and were giving a good account of themselves. Forest at times were getting pegged back and struggled to get into the game. The control they had in the first half had deserted them. It was the Imps who were finishing the stronger and not sounding at all like a team rooted to the bottom of the Football League.

The game ended all square which was about fair if we’re honest. Lincoln sounded good value for the draw and deserving of a replay. Forest on the other hand could do without another game to fit in and clog up an already congested fixture list. The replay will be on Tuesday November 27 at the City Ground.
