Nottingham Forest made the short trip across the Midlands yesterday evening to Villa Park for our Championship clash and semi derby with Aston Villa.

Villa came into the game below us in the table given their early season struggles, but their recent form had been good and despite the ‘steady as she goes’ approach under Aitor Karanka this year and our own near Play-Off placing at the moment, this was never going to be an easy one.

Everyone knows by now how the game went, we conceded the advantage twice in the match and were left to fight back to save a point but despite the frustration that conceding five goals brings, scoring five goals and fighting back (dealing with the knock of conceding a two goal advantage but not collapsing) means huge positives as well.

I’m taking the latter.

And Joe Lolley with one goal and four assists against his boyhood club deserves every ounce of praise he’s taking and he was the clear winner on the night according to Whoscored.

Two goal Lewis Grabban picked up 8.91 himself which is not too shabby at all and he’d have enjoyed his brace against his former club, and Matty Cash (7.44), Joao Carvalho (7.07) and Jack Colback (6.71) completed our top five on the day.

Take the positives, learn from the negatives and just enjoy it as an absolute belter in my humble opinion.
