It’s been reported this evening that Nottingham Forest skipper Danny Fox is set for a medical at Wigan Athletic on Tuesday ahead of completing a January transfer window switch out to them.

Speculation about the 32-year-old defender surfaced last week as it was reported that Forest had knocked back an offer from Wigan for his services, but with new manager Martin O’Neill having had longer to assess the squad, if the medical does go ahead, the gaffer has made one of his decisions.

Fox wasn’t involved in the weekend’s first victory for O’Neill over Wigan and he hasn’t featured since picking up two yellow cards and being sent from the pitch earlier this month in the defeat to Reading, but having worn the armband for most of this season, I’m guessing the main driver behind the deal is to recoup some cash given he’s out of contract come next summer.

Having arrived from Southampton back in January 2014, his five odd year stay with us has seen him make 123 appearances in total.

If he does depart, it would free up a space for Reece Oxford who Sky Sports say we are in talks with West Ham over at this moment in time.
