Speculation is growing in the media that Aitor Karanka is set to add a Premier League defender to a squad we all hope can make an impact in the promotion race.

According to the most popular red-top publication this nation produces, the Sun, Nottingham Forest are extremely hopeful of landing the West Ham United right-back, Sam Byram, on a season-long loan spell.

Byram, 24-years-of-age, joined West Ham United, from Leeds United, in January 2016 for an undisclosed fee.

However, last season, he struggled to get first-team starts and the feeling is that the new West Ham boss, Manuel Pellegrini, may be tempted to let the player go out on a season-long loan deal to kick-start his career down in the Championship.

Our opinion, here at Vital Nottingham Forest, is that Byram would be a good addition to the side, his versatility allows him to play anywhere on the right-hand side of the pitch, right-back, right-sided midfield or right-wing. Given the opportunity to get regular first-team football, a spell at the City Ground could be just what the player needs.

We’ll keep our eyes out for any further developments and report back as deemed necessary.
