Forest Look Sharp For A Striker

According to the Nottingham Evening Post, Forest have ruled out any interest in Geoff Horsfield the Sheffield United striker. That can be no surprise really given his age (34). Added to that is the fact he can’t get in the Blunts side at present, having made only 3 appearances for them and hasn’t scored.

With the deadline day of November 22 fast approaching, the Reds will have to look sharp if they want to get anyone in. As we all know, at present things look pretty rosey on the striker front, with all bar Holt fit. But come January Agogo will be absent due to his participation in the ACON tournament and if Forest should pick up any fresh injuries between now and then things could look very different.

The club is on record as saying they want young, up and coming players at the City Ground, so going for the likes of Horsfield would have gone against that philosophy. The likes of Neill Danns and Will Hoskins have been previous targets and have both seen fit to turn us down in the past. That’s not to say we wouldn’t try again, but do we really want them if they have no heart for the club?

Leon Best has been linked, but he is not thought to fancy a move back to his hometown. David McGoldrick was a hotly tipped target in the summer, but his loan spell at Port Vale has shown he has been far from prolific scoring only twice in seven appearances. He is a local lad and a product of the Notts County youth setup. He is a possibility.

The boldest and most audacious signing would be out of favour Sheffield United and former Scunny frontman Billy Sharp. He can’t get a look in under Bryan Robson at Bramall Lane, having made only 5 appearances for them. CC is a known admirer of the goal machine and has made tentative approaches in the past. He signed for the Blunts in the summer for a fee of £2M and would not come cheap, despite being out of favour. He would be a great addition and Forest could guarantee him the games he isn’t getting with United. He scored 53 goals in 82 appearances for the Iron, so is a proven scorer at this level and could probably do it at a higher level given the chance. The big question is whether the player fancies a move back to League 1. A loan spell would do him good. It would do us the power of good if he came with a view of a permanent move. But, can CC pull off another transfer coup as he did with Lennon in the summer? It would be nice to think so. If all else fails, we could always make a bid for Charlton’s £1.1M summer signing Izale McLeod. It would make nffcbasford positively ecstatic if nothing else.
