Forest join hunt for player who could act as the perfect backup for Lewis Grabban – Report

|

Now this is the kind of transfer rumour that I can get behind.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest are one of a number of clubs that are interested in bringing in Charlton Athletic’s Lyle Taylor on board in January. They’ll be jumping the gun somewhat given that his contract runs out at the end of the season, but Forest will be hoping they can entice Charlton to sell now rather than lose him in the summer for nothing.

They face stiff competition as Burnley, Sheffield United, Norwich, Brentford and Bristol City are all reportedly interested in bringing him in as well, so there could be a rather big bidding war taking place if the 29-year-old doesn’t get his contract sorted soon.

If Nottingham Forest were to be able to pull this off, I think you could pretty much classify this as the ‘perfect’ signing.

With Sabri Lamouchi making a point very early on in the campaign about how he needed to strike the balance right with Lewis Grabban when it came to giving him rest, the results haven’t necessarily fallen in his favour, as when Rafa Mir has been asked to step up in his place in the league he hasn’t been able to deliver.

With Taylor though, you have someone who knows how to find the net in this division, so when you do have to rest Grabban on occasion, you know you’re in a lot safer hands than you are with Mir, because you know that he’ll be able to make up the shortfall where Mir has so far failed to do so.

Would you take Lyle Taylor in January?

Yes

No

Plus, given that his value is only £900k, it would be a lot cheaper than going after Dwight Gayle, given the £15m that Newcastle United are asking for.
