It’s hoped that the future of midfielder Sammy Clingan will be sorted out this week and Forest boss Colin Calderwood hopes he signs a new deal with the Reds.

Sammy becomes a free agent when his contract runs out this summer and he has a host of other clubs lined up to sign him. Norwich, QPR and Ipswich are keeping tabs on him and are waiting to swoop if the Northern Ireland international declines the new deal.

Calderwood told Sky Sports News. ‘Sammy has been excellent for us and we want to keep him. We are waiting to hear back from Sammy and hopefully before the weekend or next week we will have heard something.

Looking ahead, CC hinted that there might be some positive news on new signings this week as well. ‘I think in the next week we will hopefully tie up one or two things in terms of getting Sammy signed and progressing with one or two other deals and then we’ve got a little break again before we come back for pre-season.’ Here’s hoping.
