The Nottingham Forest squad today set off for their pre season training camp in Portugal, but without manager Steve McClaren.

The official site says the squad departed from Birmingham this morning and will have their first training session this afternoon. It will be the first of twice daily training sessions on the 5 day trip.

The highlight of the trip, will see the Reds’ take on a Spurs X1 on Friday night in the Estadio Municipal in Albufeira (KO: 7.30pm).

Manager Steve McClaren has not travelled out with the team, due to delays in making additions to his depleted squad. The official site says a 22 man squad has made the trip, but 5 of those have yet to make a first team appearance for the club. Youngsters Karlton Watson, Kieron Freeman, Neil Byrne, Danny Meadows and Jamaal Lascelles, have been drafted in to make up the numbers. McClaren says he hopes to join up with the squad in time for the game on Friday, after securing the services of at least a couple of new players.
