It seemed that the earlier speculation surrounding Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka had died down until it exploded back to life this week – and last night as far as I was aware, he was staying with us.
Today, however, the club have announced that Karanka had asked ‘to be released’ from his contract at the City Ground and the club have duly obliged.

The short and simple answer is Simon Ireland now takes caretaker charge of the first team until we appoint a new gaffer, but the question on everyone’s lips is ‘what happened?’
There were some interviews recently where there was an undercurrent in Karanka’s words of him not being happy, but he didn’t sound like a man ready to walk away, especially following the reaction of the players and the fans in the match against Leeds United.
Yes, we’ve had some wobbles this year, but we are doing pretty well in the Championship table and Play-Off hopes at least were alive.
Plenty now feel that our season will just derail and we still don’t know what happened. All eyes to the Board.
Nice to know you took in the considerations of all the fans ???? over 29 thousand at the Leeds game all backing Karanka (including Leeds fans)

Thanks for giving us hope, for making us dream and for bringing us together. Good luck @Karanka, I wish you and your loved ones well. You’ll be fondly remembered. #nffc

The way he has been treated by the papers (and the non existent support from the club) it's no wonder he's gone. Worst mistake ever for #NFFC

Walking before he's pushed out by the powers that be…they are thick. Brilliant manager at a badly run club unfortunately ????
