Nottingham Forest cruised into the 2nd round of the Carling Cup, courtesy of a 4-0 victory over League 2 side Morecambe, at the City Ground tonight.

New signing Robert Earnshaw opened his account for the Reds’ with a brace and Adam Newbold got his first goal for us in his first senior game for the club.

Forest led 1-0 at the break thanks to a Chris Cohen free kick. Despite the striker shortage, Forest ended the game 4-0 winners. The only downside to the evening, was the withdrawal of Arron Davies on 18 mins with yet another injury. The club now face an anxious wait on his fitness and hope he is not added to an already long injury list.

The victory means a home tie in the 2nd round against Premiership Sunderland. The Reds’ lost 1-0 to the Black Cats in a pre-season friendly a fortnight ago, but this time it’s for real. A decent crowd can be expected for this one and will definitely be an improvement on tonight’s 4,030. Games to take place the week commencing August 25.
