When Billy Davies took the reigns at Nottingham Forest back in January 2008, he came into the club with a proven track record in the Championship and a proven track record in upsetting those that employed him. As a result of that, it should come as no surprise that he’s now embroiled in a war of words and set on a collision course with his current employer Nigel Doughty.

The past few weeks have seen both parties posturing and positioning themselves through the local and national media, to be seen by supporters as being in the right. But whilst the manager and chairman are busy slinging mud at each other, it’s the good name of the club that is being damaged.

The events of the last weekend have culminated in Billy Davies serving up a vitriolic attack on the hierarchy of the club, through his post match interview on BBC Radio Nottingham. He says he can’t do his job properly due to financial constraints and is being held back in his efforts to move the club forward, because they are failing to deliver on transfer targets he recommends and advises on.

To counter that, Nigel Doughty has supposedly taken issue with the fact that the manager only works a three day week and spends most of his time back home in his native Glasgow. According to The Guardian, the manager is about to have his knuckles rapped over this, as the political infighting at the club rolls on.

Whatever the rights and wrongs in all this, the biggest loser is NFFC. As much as Nigel Doughty knew about the pitfalls in appointing Billy Davies as manager, Billy knew about the pitfalls in coming to the club. Both parties are at fault and both need to sort it out for the good of the Nottingham Forest.
