Aitor Karanka finds his position under threat at Nottingham Forest, with the Reds currently out of form and at risk of missing out on the playoffs. Forest suffered a 1-0 defeat to Millwall on Saturday, extending their winless run to five Championship games, and currently sit six points adrift of the top-six. The Midlands outfit have failed to score in four of their last five and may be fearful of their chances of promotion under Karanka.

Forest next face top-of-the-table side Leeds United on New Year’s Day and could come unstuck again given the visitors are boasting three consecutive away wins. Karanka’s men are no slouches even despite their inferior form. Only Leeds (24) and Middlesbrough (17) have a better defensive record than Forest (27) but scoring goals at the other end has been a major problem.

The Reds have been involved in a 5-5 draw with Aston Villa (November 28) and a 3-3 draw with Norwich City (December 26) but have failed to score in five games since November. Despite their woeful form, fans are clearly willing to give Karanka more time to get things right. Recruitment in January will be key as he needs a centre-back, left-back and striker to stand a chance of promotion.
