Whenever a manager leaves a club, there’s always talk about what ‘legacy’ they left behind.
Whether it be Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, or Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, we talk about the things they left behind as a reminder of their time there. At Nottingham Forest however, Martin O’Neill seems to have left a different kind of legacy, and not one that Forest fans would have wanted.
When setting out his stall for pre-season, the Irishman scheduled nine preseason games to get himself ready for the new season. Having only been appointed in January, maybe he was making up for lost time for missing out on the last pre-season.
However new manager Sabri Lamouchi obviously thought that nine games were too much for his players to handle, as the club were forced to cancel their pre-season game on Saturday against Peterborough United.
Probably for the best too, after the intense pre-season training sessions in the Spanish heat, you don’t want to burn the players out before they’ve even got started.
You’d think that fans would be saddened by this, it’s not as if anyone has ever complained about watching their team too much. However, it seems as if these Forest fans see the practical side of it, and even used it as a chance to praise the new boss for using more logic in his pre-season methods than his predecessor.
Fair enough, 9 friendlies is way too many in my opinion. Much more likely to pick up unwanted injuries

The schedule was a joke in fairness

Good move. 9 games is a joke.

Very sensible, what was MON doing scheduling 9 friendlies all within 5 weeks anyway, the new manager having a modern/sensible impact already!

Unfortunate for posh but the schedule was old school crazy ????

It’s unfortunate- there’s no reason why Posh should lose out on a valuable run out and it’s sad that they’ve been left as collateral damage- but we simply have too many friendlies organised. MON’s plan would have left our players exhausted.
