|

Sam Byram was left out of the Nottingham Forest matchday squad against Middlesbrough on Monday afternoon due to concussion, according to Nottinghamshire Live. Matty Cash started at right wing-back in Forest’s 3-0 win and put in a good performance at the City Ground.

There wasn’t much transparency about Byram from Forest on their official website, however, with the club only revealing Jack Colback and Yohan Benalouane were both suspended. Nevertheless, Byram should return to face Queens Park Rangers on April 27 provided his concussion isn’t severe. Whether he’ll start is a different matter.

The 25-year-old suffered the head injury against Sheffield United on Friday but still played a full 90 minutes. Byram had impressed upon his return from a serious knee injury, playing every minute against Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and United before the concussion.

Forest have little to play for now their promotions hopes are dead in the water, but Monday’s win over Middlesbrough may help to end the season on a high. They have two games remaining against QPR and Bolton Wanderers. Martin O’Neill is under a lot of pressure as the Reds’ have fallen apart in 2019, so he’ll be desperate to finish the campaign on winning ways if possible.
