Explained: Why Rafa Mir missed Nottingham Forest’s meeting with Barnsley

|

Rafa Mir was expected to have returned from injury by the time Nottingham Forest locked horns with Barnsley on Saturday, but the 22-year-old was omitted from the matchday squad as he’s still not fully recovered. Mir missed Forest’s 1-0 win over Swansea City on September 14 as he ‘needed some rest’ and Sabri Lamouchi is reportedly hoping he’ll return next week.

Lewis Grabban started in attack against Barnsley over the weekend while Sammy Ameobi and Albert Adomah were introduced from the bench in the second-half. The Reds won 1-0 and moved up to fifth in the table. Lamouchi’s men are just two points adrift of leaders Leeds United after eight games and boast three wins and a draw from their last four.

Mir’s last appearance for Forest came a month ago against Charlton Athletic (August 21). After that, he was an unused substitute against Fulham (August 24) and Preston North End (August 31) before picking up his injury, so supporters haven’t seen a lot of the 22-year-old. He’s racked up just 71 minutes of football since joining on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers too.
