Explained: Who are the two players Nottingham Forest invited to the Football Academy?

|

Nottingham Forest appear to be planning for the future, bringing in two youngsters from Atromitos to train at the Football Academy – Grigoris Petris and Fotis Piquoulas. According to Greek outlet Sports DNA, Forest invited the two players and gave them until May 4th to impress the coaches to earn a deal.

Atromitos were previously owned by Evangelos Marinakis and have one of the best youth academies in Greece. Forest and Atromitos have a good working relationship too. Sport Witness say that Marinakis has long looked to recruit young players from Greece and may be considering Petris and Piquoulas.

Martin O’Neill is expected to be overhauling the first-team this summer after Forest’s underwhelming campaign. The Reds manager will be focusing on lowering the average age. Joe Worrall and Tyler Walker will return to the squad next season while Adlene Guedioura, Ben Watson and Daryl Murphy could be on their way out.

Matty Cash, Ryan Yates and Arvin Appiah have all featured in the first-team this season, so Petris and Piquoulas will know there’s a path for youngsters to progress to the senior squad if they’re good enough. Whether Forest will sign the pair permanently is unknown, but time will tell.
