Ryan Yates was ruled out of action ahead of Nottingham Forest’s meeting with Barnsley on Saturday and isn’t expected to return until October. Forest say the 21-year-old will need ‘a couple of extra weeks’ before he’ll be available for selection.

As a result, Yates could miss another four games due to his knee injury – Arsenal (EFL Cup) on September 24, Stoke City (Championship) on September 27, Blackburn Rovers (Championship) on October 1 and Brentford (Championship) on October 5.

Forest have an international break after their meeting with Brentford and won’t have another league game for two weeks – Wigan Athletic (Championship) on October 20. Yates should be back in action by then if the club’s injury update is accurate.

The midfielder is yet to play a single minute of football this season and will have stiff competition in midfield upon his return from Ben Watson, Alfa Semedo, Samba Sow, John Bostock and Tiago Silva. And with Forest enoying such a bright start to the campaign, Lamouchi is unlikely to make many unenforced changes to the squad.

The Reds are currently fifth in the Championship with 15 points from eight games, having won three and drawn one of their last four.
