Explained: When Michael Hefele and Yohan Benalouane could return for Nottingham Forest

|

Nottingham Forest have been without Michael Hefele & Yohan Benalouane since the start of the season, but the centre-backs could soon be available for selection.

Hefele picked up an Achilles injury against Leeds United on January 1 and has been out of action ever since. Benalouane had an operation on his back that he’s still recuperating from. His last outing for Forest was against Sheffield United (Championship) on April 19.

According to Sportsgambler, the Reds’ duo are ‘back in training’ which means they could be in line to feature against Swansea City on September 14. Whether Sabri Lamouchi will pick Hefele or Benalouane in his squad after the international break remains to be seen, however.

Michael Dawson and Joe Worrall have impressed as regulars at centre-back this season, keeping Tobias Figueiredo on the bench and Alexander Milosevic out of the matchday squad entirely, so it’s hard to see Lamouchi introducing more competition in defence.

Forest are unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions and have conceded only four goals. So with the Reds in fine form this season, why would Lamouchi consider replacing his resolute centre-backs?
