Gboly Ariyibi turned down the chance to join Motherwell on a permanent deal over the summer and instead opted for Panetolikos, but the 24-year-old may be regretting the decision.

Panetolikos have struggled for form in the Greek Super League and could suffer relegation at the end of the season while Motherwell are flourishing in the Scottish Premiership and look on course to finish in a Europa League spot.

Ariyibi has made three appearances for Pantelokis, making one assist, and has yet to be on the winning side in 218 minutes of football. The Greek outfit currently sit bottom of the Super League without a point after five games and have scored just three goals for their troubles.

Motherwell, on the other hand, are flying in Scotland. The Steelmen are third in the Premiership with 16 points from eight games and have won five of their last six. Ariyibi has a successful loan spell at Fir Park last season, contributing seven goals in 18 appearances, but he didn’t fancy a permanent stay.

Playing in the Super League was an attractive proposition, but the US u23 international may now regret the decision to come to Greece. As for Panetolikos, Luis Manuel Ferreira De Castro’s men have an international break before they next face AE Larissa on October 19.
