Jamie Ward left Nottingham Forest at the end of his contract in May and has finally found himself a new club four months later. The 33-year-old has joined Scunthorpe United on a short-term deal until January after training with the Iron for a number of weeks.

Ward is likely to be short of match fitness given his lack of activity in the last year. The midfielder was on the periphery at Forest in 2018/19 and embarked upon a loan move to Charlton Athletic to get regular playing time. He made 11 appearances for the Addicks before returning to the City Ground.

In total, Ward spent four years at Forest and made 62 appearances in all competitions, contributing 14 goals. The 33-year-old’s last outing for Forest came in the Championship against Preston North End on January 30, 2018. Ward saw out the rest of his contract in the East Midlands before his release this summer.

Whether he can be a success at Scunthorpe remains to be seen, but the Iron were clearly impressed enough by his trial to take a punt on him.
