Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton have all been linked with a £12m move for Matty Cash, but Nottingham Forest are unlikely to let him leave in January given how important he’s been this season. The Reds are also unlikely to sell him for such a low asking price either as Cash is one of the best right-backs in the Championship.
It’s worth looking at how much money Premier League clubs have spent on domestic fullbacks over the summer – Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham to Tottenham) for £24m, Matt Targett (Southampton to Aston Villa) for £14m, Lloyd Kelly (Bristol City to Bournemouth) for £13.3m. Forest have three top-flight sides interested in Cash, so they could surely make a lot more than £12m.
The 22-year-old has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating four goals. He’s made 11 chances, 12 successful dribbles (57%), whipped in 55 crosses with 24% accuracy, blocked 25 shots/passes/crosses, won 21 aerial duels (62%), averaged a tackle (39) or interception (20) every 19 minutes and frequently makes EFL’s Team of the Week.
There are few better fullbacks in the second tier, so that should reflect in his asking price. Forest should request between £15m-£20m for Cash, but that may still not be enough for his sale. The Reds are currently fifth in the Championship and set for the playoffs as things stand. Losing their right-back would hamper their chances of promotion.
