Michael Dawson had an uncertain future before Sabri Lamouchi replaced Martin O’Neill as manager, but the 35-year-old has been a regular in defence and one of Nottingham forest’s most consistent performers this season. Dawson has shone alongside Joe Worrall and has played his part in Forest having the third-best defensive record in the Championship (6).

He was impressive against Barnsley on the weekend too. The former England international played a full 90 minutes in Saturday’s 1-0 win, made 44 touches, won four aerial duels, completed 62.9% of his 35 passes, made six clearances and blocked two shots. His best moment of the game was his outstanding block to prevent a goal from close range.

Dawson was not only injured over the summer, having spent the second-half of the campaign sidelined with a hamstring problem, he also had competition from Worrall, Tobias Figureido, Alexander Milosevic, Yohan Benalouane, Jack Robinson and Michael Hefele – Chema now too. He’s nevertheless made eight Championship appearances this season, playing every minute of every game and captaining the side for the majority too.

The Reds are currently sixth in the table, have kept consecutive clean sheets and have conceded one or less goals in each of their last seven games.
