With his contract expiring this summer, many Forest fans would hope Mark Warburton can persuade Eric to stay at The City Ground – certainly, after proving his worth in recent weeks following a disappointing absence (most likely due to the arrival of Tendayi Darikwa) from the first team in the early part of the season!
Eric joined Forest in June 2013 as a free transfer, from Aston Villa, initially signing a 2 year deal that was then extended to summer 2018. The versatile defender, who is approaching 150 league appearances for Forest, is often deployed at left back, when the likes of Danny Fox & Armand Traore are injured, despite favouring the right back slot.
Having recently celebrated his 29th birthday, the USA International defender and Forest’s current player of the year, is still yet to agree a new deal at Forest – despite an offer having been to put Eric/his representatives.
Whilst talks are still ongoing with Forest and the new management regime, the sticking point is believed to be the length of the deal on offer NOT the actual financial content.
Personally, I would hope that Eric’s versatility, effort and attitude are rewarded with a deal that keeps him at Forest for at least another 2 years, perhaps with that 3rd year option to extend based upon appearances.
Sign him up Mark.
