Evangelos Marinakis’ proposed bid to complete his takeover of Nottingham Forest is being assessed by the English Football League Executive, confirmed by the EFL.

Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi, who previously failed to agree a deal with Olympiakos owner Marinakis last year before John Jay Moores’ bid collapsed in 2017, had earlier this week said the deal was 99% complete. This ‘change of control’ is now being assessed as a spokesman, quoted by the BBC, confirmed.

The spokesman said: ‘A change of control at Nottingham Forest is currently being assessed by the EFL Executive within the context of our regulations.’

Facing match-fixing allegation is Greece in connection to games between 2011 and 2013, Marinakis is waiting to see if this latest case will go to trial. He has previously been cleared over a lack of evidence.

Marinakis, who recently saw his Olympiakos side claim a seventh Greek title since taking control in 2010, needs to pass the EFL’s owners’ and directors’ test in order to complete his takeover, the BBC report this WILL most likely be the case as Marinakis hasn’t been convinced of any crime.
