Forest chairman Nigel Doughty is expected to appear in Labour Party records to be released this week by the Electoral Commission.
Mr Doughty, 49, chairman of Doughty Hanson, a leading UK-based private equity firm, pledged £250,000 to the party in May last year, according to Electoral Commission figures previously reported in the Post.
The chairman has a personal fortune estimated at £120m and has invested more than £40m in Nottingham Forest.
Sir Ronald Cohen and Jonathan Aisbitt are also thought to have given £250,000 each during the final quarter of 2006.
Mr Aisbitt is thought to be worth £98m – much of which he made in the flotation of merchant bank Goldman Sachs, where he was a partner.
Sir Ronald started the private equity vehicle Apax with three friends in the 1970s. He is believed to be worth £260m.
A Labour Party spokesman said: ‘All donations given to the Labour Party fully comply with guidelines laid down by the Electoral Commission who publish them regularly on their website.’
