Much of Scott Dobie’s time at the City Ground was spent in the treatment room with one injury or another and to say his career never took off here would be an understatement.

He joined Forest back in 2005 and in all that time he’s made the grand total of 45 appearances. That total was rewarded with no more than 4 goals. Hardly the work of a hotshot striker. He must be congratulated though on overcoming a nightmare hip injury that nearly forced him out of the game. It was an injury many said would end his career, but fair play to him in that he did make it back onto a football pitch again.

Nottingham Forest will have spent a lot of time and money to nurse the player through those difficult times, at a time when he was one of the highest earners at the club. Despite all this, he’s seen fit to throw all that back in the face of the people who paid him and had a right old dig at his former employers.

Dobie told the Cumbrian News and Star. “If it was down to my footballing ability why it didn`t go well at Forest, I would hold my hands up. But not being given an opportunity after working hard to show people I`m fit again is something I feel quite bitter about. I`ve been fit for a year, but I didn`t start and finish one game under the manager. He seemed to think he`d given me a fair chance but that`s not the way I see it.’

It may not be the way he sees it, but the sad fact is he wasn’t good enough to wear the shirt. He made 20 appearances last season and scored once. That’s not the goals to game ratio you expect from a striker.

It may be for the best that he’s left the club. He was hardly getting a look in at reserve team level, so he had no chance of breaking through into the first team. Good luck to him at Carlisle, but how many games he plays in the two and a half year deal he’s got, is anyone’s guess.

  • Bet he scores against us though, if we play them next season as he’s not allowed to play against us this season under the terms of his release!
