Rafik Djebbour, the Algerian international striker, was the only ‘current’ Forest player likely to feature in the upcoming World Cup – however, a lack of games at club level appear to have cost him his place.

Djebbour, who was signed from Greek side Olympiacos in the January Transfer Window, made just 8 appearance for the Reds, scoring once on debut.

There is still some doubt as to whether the 30 year old Djebbour will form part of Stuart Pearce’s plans at Forest next season – with the 2.5 year deal, thought to have been an initial loan style signing.

Djebbour announced his signing on Twitter, days ahead of any official confirmation from Forest or Chairman, Fawaz Al Hasawi.

Injuries, fitness & form have impacted upon Djebbour’s Forest career, but there have also been rumours of rifts between Forest players that have been doing the rounds and the recent absences of the Algerian duo, Djamel Abdoun & Djebbour from the first team squad will have done little to stymie these.

Djebbour has been silent for weeks on Twitter and has been linked with a return to Greece, with the physicality & pace of the Championship apparently not suiting him.

With less than a month until his official start date, Stuart Pearce will want to resolve any such issues as early as possible – so, Djebbour’s Forest fate may well be resolved one way or other soon – certainly without the need for a trip to Brazil!

Former Forest favourite, Adlene Guedioura, has also been omitted from the Algerian World Cup squad.
