Meet the new rumour, same as the old rumour.

The Joao Carvalho to Olympiacos rumours have taken a bit of a back seat in recent times, what with the managerial changes, the six signings that Forest have made already and the slow removal of those deemed surplus to requirements. Here they are though, back on the agenda. Here’s how the story has unfolded so far this summer, see if you can keep track.

Olympiacos were reported to be interested in making a move for Carvalho for a good chunk of the last couple of months. However that move depended on whether or not Kostas Fortunis completed a move to West Ham. When the rumours of Fortunis making a switch to East London went down, so did the rumours of Carvalho to Olympiacos.  However, Fortunis might not be going anywhere for some time, as he picked up an ACL injury during his side’s recent friendly with Hamburg.

As a result of all this, Greek outlet Sport24 are reporting that Joao Carvalho has shot back into prominence for the Greek side. Whether or not Olympiacos will be put off by Carvalho’s current injury remains to be seen, depending on the severity of it.

After his performances last season, chipping in four goals and eight assists, this would clearly be a devastating blow for Forest, however due to both clubs being owned by the same man, Evangelos Marinakis he can make the whole process a lot more streamlined and that should worry Forest fans.

Forest are in a very good position at the moment, with plenty of potential and a really good chance of getting promoted. However, letting a key man like Carvalho go would be a catastrophic decision. If Marinakis is really invested in this club, and some of his off the pitch decisions tell me he is, then surely he should see it in his best interests to get Forest into the Premier League, and get a slice of all the riches that being in the top flight entails.
